What is a secure way to store the master-password of a password manager? [duplicate]
I use a password manager to provide a decent information security level in my everyday life - by generating strong passwords on every occasion - and remembering only the one master-password.
But now I become concerned - what if by some accident I will forget the master-password or its part? I.e. shock, amnesia, age problems.
What is a common secure practice to be able to "restore" the master-password (or access to a password manager) without relying on my memory? And minimizing risks of someone else being able to recover it without my consent.
Possible (bad) solutions:
- Write it down on sheet of paper - everybody who has access to the physical medium can copy my master-password without me even notice. The medium can be forcefully taken away from me, simply destroyed, etc.
- The restore codes - almost the same as previous solution.
- Secure the sheet of paper in the bank vault - better than previous solutions, but it binds me physically to the location of the vault to restore the password.
