Sending photo of debit card over email [duplicate]

I have seen/heard online stores (not necessarily within the U.S., maybe international) asking buyers to provide a picture of their debit cards via email (e.g., for verifying identity). My intuition tells me that this is not safe. Moreover, I don't think there is any reason for an online seller to ask this, because once the buyer provided the card number, expiration date, and CVV, the seller should already be able to charge the card, right? So my questions are:

  1. Why would some seller, especially online seller, ask buyers for a picture of their debit cards?
  2. Is it actually okay for a buyer to provide a picture of debit card to a seller via email?
  3. If a buyer has already send a picture of his/her debit card to seller via email, what (bad things) could happen? (How?)
  4. If the buyer, when sending a photo of his/her debit card to a seller, blocked everything but the last four digits and name on card, would that be safe (or better)?
  5. If a buyer has already send a picture of his/her debit card to a seller via email, what should he/she do (for damage control)? Is blocking the card and asking the bank to issue a new one the only option?

I'm aware that a related question has been asked here, but my question is about debit cards, and I would like to see more details.
