Is it really a good idea to check downloaded PDFs on VirusTotal?

Is it really a good idea to check downloaded PDFs on VirusTotal?

I often download PDF and DjVu files from shady websites. Is it a good idea to upload them on VirusTotal first or this is not really practially necessary?

I often download 5 different versions of the same file just to discover that only 1 of them is of a good quality, which means that I need to check them all on VirusTotal first. And given that the number of files is about 3-5 per day, this is really disgustingly boring.

I open them using macOS Preview app.
