Why no press over GRUB 2.12rc?

I am trying to update my GRUB from 2.06 to 2.12 in order to take advantage of the new support for luks2 disk encryption, but I've noticed something strange. There's very very little discussion of 2.12 online. News outlets reporting that it released, but few tutorials on how to update/install it, few StackOverflow posts asking questions about it, just very little hubbub in general. Seems as if very few people are using it / talking about it. Personally, I'm using the INSTALL textfile included in the tarball as an installation guide.

Which makes me a little worried - is there a reason very few people are using it? Is there something I'm missing? Is it ready to be used? (as in, a full release versus just a weekly beta build?) 2.06 doesn't update to 2.12 when using update-grub and grub-install, which I find odd and perhaps a point against 2.12.

Small additional question - I see mention of version "2.12rc", but when I go to the downloads page I only see "2.12". What does "rc" mean then, and how is it different?

Edit: I should clarify, I am not seeking to find out "is it ready yet" as much. The software release cycle isn't the important part here. Thank you all!
